                                                        NEW PROGRAMS

Home Routes is about world-class musicians, known and unknown alike, performing complete concerts in the comfortable intimacy of non-traditional spaces. They're fun to attend, fun to present, and fun to play. Just imagine the art office as a concert hall with 25-40 friends gathered for an evening of great music. Imagine great artists delivering the same show in this unique space  that they would present on the Main Stage of a folk festival or a concert hall.

Do you like to be close up when you see a show  that it feels like the musician connects with you? Do you find yourself looking for the best spot so that you can hear perfectly? Have you wished that someone would open a great venue right in your neighborhood - someplace safe, clean and fun to visit? Do you like the kind of party where people share good times and good music? If you live in rural Canada are your community shows limited because of population density and do you have a taste for more great music?

If the answer to any or all of these questions is yes, then you have a wonderful opportunity to participate in Home Routes. You can have perfect sound and sight lines, a great party and world-class music right in your own area.  There's no experience quite like it for the listener or presenter.

Home Routes is a not-for-profit organization made up of folks just like you and is dedicated to the love of music, to making music more accessible to a greater number of people and to supporting the artists that make the music. Home Routes is an organized approach to planning home-based shows that ensures a fun time for the presenter and the artist.

All concerts

  • Held at the beautiful historic building located at 103 Broadway St. downtown Holland Manitoba in the Tiger Hills Arts Association Gallery
  • Concerts begin at 7:30 pm.
  • Cost is only $15

Line up for 2007 - 2008

September 22  The Laws

Singer/songwriter husband and wife duet from Ontario  performong an acoustic mix of roots country, bluegrass, folk and pop delivered with 'tight as a glove' harmony singing reminiscent of the Everly Brothers.

October 22    Chuck Suchy

One of the foremost musical voices on the American Great Plains; folk singer, farmer, songwriter & storyteller His themes have expanded to include songs about human relationships, spirituality, motorcycles, and even sailing. The Plains have seen a lot of change over this time, including farm crises, loss of population, and a major restructuring of the agricultural economy. Chuck remains an astute observer of it all and his songs chronicle not only the events, but the emotions and feelings that accompany such upheaval and change.  His music and stories speak to everyone -urban and rural- because laughter, love, gain and loss are common human property.

November 20  Andy Cohen

Gospel and blues artist on guitar and vocals who was influenced by the greatest acoustic guitar player of all times, the Rev. Garry Davis.  Andy has produced several CD's.

February 21 Charles Gordon

Based in Guelph, Ontario, James Gordon is known to many North Americans as the founder of Canada's premier folk group TAMARACK. With this durable trio he toured every corner of the continent, recorded fourteen albums, and made countless television and radio appearances. He has become well-known for his original songs about Canada's identity and heritage. He was a regular songwriting contributor to the CBC radio programmes "Ontario Morning" and "Basic Black". He has also released numerous solo albums for adults and children , composed works for symphony orchestras, co-written a popular series of "Jim and Dave" family musicals and written music for theatre, dance and film. His original folk opera "Hardscrabble Road" debuted in 2003. His songs have been recorded by a number of other artists including The Cowboy Junkies, Melanie Doane, Hilary Spencer, Al Simmons, Ian Bell and James Keelaghan.

His song "Frobisher Bay" was featured on Canada's most successful television program ever, "Canadian Idol", and it was named "Favourite Canadian Song" in the roots category in a national CBC radio contest. It's been recorded by dozens of artists around the world. His song "Mining For Gold" is in the new John Sayles film "Silver CIty" starring Kris Kristoferson, Daryl Hannah and Richard Dreyfus.

2005 was Gordon's busiest year... he spent 5 weeks in England as composer/musical director for David Cregan's new play "Jealous River", he toured the U.S., Japan, and Canada's east coast, released his new album "Hardscabble Road"- and made a presentation at an international conference in Cuba on his ongoing work with "healing and the arts". These days James tours North America and Great Britain as a solo act or accompanied by some of Canada's finest musicians, including Sandy Horne on bass and Marion Linton on fiddle, or with his two sons Evan and Geordie as "James Gordon and Sons".He produces CDs for other artists at his Pipe StreetStudios. Signed to Borealis Records, Gordon's latest release "Endomusia" has received the best airplay of his long career.

"Gordon has a feel for the totality of Canada like few songwriters. When you consider such songs as Mining for Gold, Harvest Train, Frobisher Bay, Fields of Rock and Snow and Lonesome Cowboy's Lament, you end up with as enduring a handful of songs as has ever been written in this country by a single writer....The Kitchener-Waterloo Record

March 20       Kat Goldman

Kat, a native of Toronto, is one of Canada's best kept secrets. who moved to the US.  Influenced by some of the great musical icons, Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan and Paul Simon, Kat's on stage persona is a musical cocktail, a distinctive blend of coffee house comfort and snappy pop pertinence. With a unique structuring of melody and infectious hooks, the honesty and often whimsical humour fo Kat Goldman are the crux of her musical ID card. And no matterwhat size the crowd she's playing in front of, her incredibly persuasive and convincingly laid back banter between songs makes you feel you're in her living room. She has already graced the stage at NXNE, Taste Of The Danforth and Canadian Music Week as well as opened for Australian darlings The Waifs, Blue Rodeo's Bob Egan, Sarah Slean and Martin Sexton.

April 25       Yael Wand

True to her divergent roots and wanderings, Yael Wand delivers songs with the sensibility of folk and allusions to jazz, all set in the landscape of a wild country.

Born in Israel and raised in Vancouver, Yael now makes her home with foxes, bears and wildflowers, in the mountains of northern British ColumbiaHer shift from big city to small town plays out in her music. Yael sings urban lullabies along side tales from the rustic cabins of the backwoods. She navigates the political terrain of the middle-east with the same ease and passion as she does the wilderness of the Canadian west. Her classical vocal training and 17 years of live performance make her a powerful performer. She draws in an audience with the sound of her voice, clear and passionate, and captivates with the colour and substance of her songwriting.
