Job Posting: Assistant Director      August 2025

The Tiger Hills Arts Association, Inc. (THAA) invites applications for a part time Assistant Director (10-15 hours/week, hours are flexible, occasional evening and weekend hours may be required). Opportunity for advancement and increased hours. Driver’s license and access to a vehicle is required. The incumbent will be required to provide a child and adult registry report.

Mission statement: To promote an appreciation for and involvement in the visual, performing, and literary arts through the development of varied programs to enrich the Tiger Hills region.

About Us: Tiger Hills Arts Association, Inc. is a non-profit organization. THAA has been delivering quality arts programming since 1978. The organization provides from its Holland-based office, a variety of programming geared to meet the needs of the communities it serves within the region.

Position Summary:
The Assistant Director (AD) provides office and administrative support. The incumbent meets and greets visitors to the Gallery, assists with art installations, sales, event planning, and fundraising campaigns. Additionally, the incumbent assists with workshop development, creates promotional material, and maintains THAA’s social media pages and website. In the absence of the Executive Director, the AD acts as second point of contact. The AD often works in a self-directed, independent manner.  The AD reports to the ED and works with the Executive Director and the Board of Directors.

Responsibilities:

  • Meet and greet visitors, provide information about upcoming exhibits and events.

  • Monitor and respond to basic email inquiries and voicemails, pick up mail.

  • Assist with art installations at two galleries (use of step ladder required), unpacking, installing and repackaging for shipping). Maintain contracts. Travel may be required.  

  • Research potential artists and instructors.

  • Process sales (Square Terminal), issue membership receipts.

  • Assist with fundraising campaigns, membership renewals and donation drive.

  • Design and create promotional material, maintain THAA’s social media pages and website (Squarespace).

  • Assist with event planning, organize workshops and manage registration.

  • Assist with grant writing and financial and statistical reporting.

  • Assist with preparation of material for AGM – Program of Work.

  • Distribute scholarship application to schools.

  • Write press releases.

  • Assist at events (evenings and weekends).

  • Assist with bookkeeping (QuickBooks)

  • Assist with data entry, filing, pricing & staging, order office supplies.

  • Attend various in-person and online meetings. Travel may be required.

  • Train volunteers.

  • Assist with general housekeeping.

  • Other office and administrative functions as required.

Qualifications / Attributes:

  • Have a pleasant and friendly manner, professional and warm attitude.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English required.

  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and time management skills.

  • Work history demonstrating reliability and punctuality.

  • Ability to multi-task and work independently or as part of a small team; work with limited supervision.

  • The ability to engage with children, adults and seniors is required.

  • Excellent computer literacy (Windows), Microsoft Office Suite skills (Outlook, Word, Publisher, Excel) and excellent social media skills (Facebook, Instagram) are required.

  • Experience with web design (Squarespace), QuickBooks (bookkeeping), Square Terminal (sales) are assets.

  • Physically fit, capable of lifting and installing artwork and use of step ladder is required.

  • Must be willing and able to travel and work variable hours as needed (days, evenings, weekends).

  • Ability to take initiative, lead projects, solve problems, exercise judgement to make sound decisions.

  • Ability to exercise discretion and keep information confidential is required.

  • Be proactive and willing to contribute meaningfully with ideas to THAA’s Program of Work.

  • Have an interest in the arts is an asset.
